Social housing is often presented as being in short supply in Brussels. Although limited, it is of paramount importance, as this type of real estate is one of the only types that meets a real need. Social housing represents a strong bulwark against gentrification and real estate speculation, insofar as it is a type of property that is essentially social in nature, directly geared towards the needs of residents.
