Uncommon People
In the Nord–Pas-de-Calais region, where I was born, great fortunes — often rooted in industry — coexist with former mining towns where time seems to have stood still.
These landscapes still bear the marks of a working-class past, of an energy that has slowly faded yet continues to resonate in the walls, in the faces, in the gestures of everyday life.
With the same gaze, I wanted to photograph them — these places, these people, these contrasts.
With the same warmth, they welcomed me.
