Yangtze River – Tree Gorges Dam

In 1994, the Chinese government began the construction of the Three Gorges Dam. The reservoir will stretch over a length of 600 km from Chongqing to Sandouping. While awaiting the completion of the project, a line marked in red paint traverses the cities, villages, and countryside along the Yangtze River. This line indicates the future water level and leaves the population in a state of suspension. This report dates back to 1999, a few weeks before the relocation. The impoundment is scheduled to take place in the year 2000.
