Hijras – Transgenders in Dhaka, Bangladesh




Neither a man, nor a woman, Hijras are assigned to the third gender with the transgenders, intersexuals, androgens, eunuchs and travesties. In a third world Muslim country, the stigmatize community forms a subculture taboo society. Through thousands of years in Indian subcontinent, the status of Hijra’s went from high position to outcast level.
